Hardware vs. Software

Back then, I thought the CPU was the computer. I didn’t know the difference between hardware and software until someone explained it to me simply.

• Hardware: Physical parts (monitor, mouse, keyboard, CPU, speakers, etc.)

• Software: Programs and apps you use (Microsoft Word, browsers, games)

Without hardware, software can’t run. Without software, hardware is just metal and plastic.

What's Inside a CPU?

The CPU, or Central Processing Unit, is the brain of the computer. It contains:

• RAM (Memory) – Temporary storage while you're using the device

• Hard Drive (HDD/SSD) – Long-term storage for your files and system

• Motherboard – Connects all the internal components

• Fan – Keeps it cool to prevent overheating

So yes, the CPU is important, but it works with all the other parts too.

What Does a Computer Do?

Computers are used for:

• Storing files like photos, videos, or documents

• Surfing the internet via browsers like Chrome or Firefox

• Creating content like Word documents, presentations, or music

• Gaming or watching shows

• Programming, graphic design, and more advanced uses

They're everywhere now, in offices, cafes, schools, and even in our hands as smartphones.

Fun Fact: My First Experience With a Mouse

I seriously thought it worked like a TV remote. I was clicking away and wondering why nothing was happening unless I “pointed” it at the screen.

Turns out, you move the mouse on a surface, and that little arrow on the screen (the cursor) follows. You “click” by pressing the left or right button, depending on the action.

Lesson learned the funny way!😵😂

Basic Tips for Beginners

Here are some beginner-friendly tips I’ve learned along the way:

• Restart regularly – Keeps things running smoothly

• Don’t open random email attachments – Could be a virus!

• Use antivirus software – Windows Defender is already built-in

• Practice using keyboard shortcuts – CTRL + C for copy, CTRL + V for paste
